1st trip 6/21/2010 - Pura Vida!

Dear Friends and Family,

Buena Dias!

It is raining this morning as we gather for breakfast. The cool is refreshing after the hot sun yesterday when we dug trench footings for the new clinic. It is such an honor to work with the people here to bring the spiritual and physical healing of the Great Physician to an area where about 54,000 have inadequate or no health care. In the hurry to leave for this trip, I left my medicine at home. Luckily, Lillian has a friend who is a pharmacist and they were able to get some for me - only about 3-5% of the people here have that luxury.

Yesterday our group held a Vacation Bible School class for a village Evangelical  Methodist Church in the area. The children and their mothers gathered, shy at first and not sure what was happening. They were so well behaved and neat with beautiful smiles and laughs. They were so appreciative of a color page and marker, glue stick and colored paper. To them these were treasures. What they needed most was to be loved on. So we got down on the floor and colored with them. Boy did they warm up then! Chattered away! I colored with Shirley-Dinah and have no idea what she was telling me, but it was non-stop!

The village has about 150-200 people. Over half of the families are single mom families - young moms - in their teens some - doing the best they can with what they have. They all need a message of love, that someone cares about them, and the Clinique de Senor - Clinic of the Lord - does just that. The outreach through healthcare is like a river flowing cool and comforting, a grand channel of grace, washing away their burden and renewing their faith, hope and spirit.

It is an honor to serve our great God here and to the Four Corners of the earth!

God's peace - Pura Vida
